Observe and Understand
My first step is to understand all stakeholders involved. I discover needs through user research. I choose my user research methods, depending on scope, time, assessability, resources, and key factors. I use methods which include ethnographic research, observational research, directed and non-directed interviews, intercept interviews, surveys, card sortings, and A/B testing. I create user personas. These methods provide a qualitative and quantitative understanding of the users.
Statistical Analysis
My full understanding of user research and quantitative data requires statistical analysis. I delve into raw data to add another layer of affirmation. I reveal the significance, patterns, connections, correlations, and outliers from the collection data. I determine what is not readily apparent. The combination of qualitative and quantitative data provides a more comprehensive understanding of users and their needs.
Ideate and Test
Once stakeholders and their needs are understood, I start designing ideas for solutions and improvements. I take these ideas and test them using market research, prototyping, usability testing, and hypothesis testing. I then iterate on the ideas to narrow down to the most fitting solution.
Visual Storytelling
I connect the dots and communicate the key finding, understandings, and ideas into an easy to understand visual. I tell the story of the problems, needs, solutions, and improvements. I design visuals to best share the findings to any audience.
Feedback and Iteration
I work with others to review and further adjust and refine to improve the ideas and the visuals. I like to have multiple rounds of testing, feedback, and iteration. I find collaboration and ideation lead to innovation and success.
Implement Action Steps
Lastly, I provide action steps. I bring together the data, the visuals, market insights, and business insights and improvements to develop a strategy.
